What to Expect?

Embark on a gastronomic journey in the lush forested landscapes of Oregon & Washington as part of our Group Truffle Hunting Adventures! Join us for an unforgettable day of exploration, indulgence, and camaraderie as we delve into the forest in search of the elusive wild truffles. This is a shared experience with other adventurers.

You’ll learn to distinguish the earthy aromas that lead our canine experts to the hidden truffle treasures beneath the forest floor and get a chance to interact with the truffle dogs while they search for treasures.

You’ll learn all about truffles, sample truffle-infused bites, and best yet, play with the truffle pups… and go home with a truffle or two yourself to use in the kitchen. We’ll show you everything you need to know for cleaning, caring for, and making the most out of infusing your truffles.

Where do Truffle Adventures Take Place?

Our truffle hunts are conducted in prime truffle territories, ensuring the best chances of a successful and rewarding adventure. You’ll explore some of the most pristine and unspoiled truffle-rich regions in Washington & Oregon.  While we can provide you with a general location for planning purposes, the exact meeting location will be provided 1-2 weeks prior, as we aim to send you to the most productive truffle patch available at that time.

For group adventures, unless otherwise noted, we aim to keep locations within 1-1.5 hrs of the nearest general Metro Area. Example: Our primary PDX sites are approximately 45 min outside of Portland. We do offer adventures in farther-flung reaches in combination with other fun activities such as our Truffle Hunting and Oyster Experience. If you have questions about a specific date’s location, please inquire. When possible, we try to have them as close to participants as possible.

Please note: Transportation to locations is NOT provided.

When do Truffle Adventures Take Place?

Truffle Season runs from Late December to early May in Washington & late December to early March in Oregon for WILD Hunting. Hunting Events/ Tours on Truffières takes place from December to early March.

How Long will the Adventure Last?

We say to budget about 1/2 day for your adventure including drive time. Time in the woods is usually 1-2 hours plus addition time chatting/caring for truffles & debrief.

What Time of Day?

General Start times are subject to location and weather events. Usually, they are around 9 am or 10 am, or occasionally an afternoon hunt starting at 12:30 or 1 pm. Times will be confirmed with your guide once booked, and will be listed on the particular date.

What is the difference between the Hidden Grove Adventure, our Classic Wild Truffle Hunting Adventure, and the Truffle & Oyster Adventure?

All adventures include truffle hunting with our trained dogs, learning about the truffle ecosystem, and enjoying time in the forest — but they differ slightly in setting and in the way we share truffles afterward.

• Classic ‘Rustic’  Wild Truffle Hunting Adventure – Our classic experience. You’ll join us for a hands-on truffle hunt and enjoy a few simple truffle bites in the field. Perfect for those who want an authentic, down-to-earth day in the woods.

• Hidden Grove Adventure – Offered on a magical private forest in Chehalis, Wa, this experience includes everything in our Classic Rustic Adventure, plus a little more comfort and a tasting of elevated truffle bites — perhaps a warm truffle soup, truffled cheese crackers, and other seasonal samples — along with a small selection of truffle-infused goodies to take home. It’s still rustic, just with a touch more refinement.

• Truffle Hunt & Oyster Adventure- This adventure takes place in the Hood Canal area and includes everything in our classic Rustic Adventure, except that after the hunt, we head over to our friends at Hama Hama Oyster Saloon to enjoy some fresh oysters. There’s an opportunity to order more from the bar, but our guides will show you some of their favorite ways to eat the truffles you just found- and that involves tasty, fresh from Puget Sound Oysters! It’s a great way to make new friends, enjoy the day, and learn from our guides in a more casual, hands-on setting, with tasty truffle bites post-hunt prepared by our friends at Hama Hama.

Can I bring my own Dog?

While we LOVE dogs here, please leave them at home. No dogs are allowed on these Adventures aside from the working dogs finding your truffles. This is for everyone’s safety and enjoyment. The working dogs find you more truffles when they are not distracted.

Can Kids Come?

Absolutely! We love kids here and we do everything we can to make it a fun experience in the woods for them. Please note the attention span of your child and their ability to gain enjoyment out of the experience. Also, some dates and/or locations, we may not be able to have children along on the adventure, and some locations are better suited to children than others. Let us know if you’ll be bringing little ones (or not-so-little ones) and we can try to recommend a certain date (or those to avoid) to make it a positive experience for all.

I have limited mobility, can I join an adventure?

Yes. But do let us know. We have 1 ADA-compliant site in Oregon, and if in Washington, we recommend you join us on our Hidden Grove Adventure, where we can accommodate those with limited mobility. Please note in all other events, walking off trail- or through brush is part of the experience, as well as (sometimes- but we try to limit it- unless you want that) some uphill sections. It is doable, however. If you have concerns, please reach out- we have a variety of locations and can find one that may work for you.

What to Wear or Bring:

It’s the PNW. Dress for the weather. We suggest a rain jacket, dressing in layers, and hiking boots (strongly recommended). If different gear is needed- such as rain boots (Wellies) vs hiking boots, we’ll let you know.

Bring a small backpack and water bottle, and any snacks you’d like while you’re out in the forest. Please bring whatever you need to keep you and your party happy throughout the day.

We also recommend an Adventurous Attitude!

We will provide digging implements, the dogs, the knowledge, and everything else!

Basic Rules

1. Please stay with the group. We’ll be taking you into heavily wooded environments and we don’t want anyone getting lost.

2. Please listen to what the Guide(s) says about their dog & how to interact with the dogs. Just like people, our dogs have distinct personalities. Our guide dogs are all agreeable & friendly, but if a Guide asks you back up from the dog, or not to engage with them, please respect that dog’s personal space. They find more truffles if they are not stressed out, and it is for everyone’s safety, canine & human.

3. There may or may not be a restroom at the truffle site. Your Guide will let you know prior to leaving for the site, so be sure to use the facilities before you depart.

4. Ask questions. All our Guides are truffle experts, (and experts on their dogs!). Alana is an expert in cultivated truffles as well (yes there are different types), so if you have specific questions about that, please direct your questions her way.

5. Truffle sites are magical places. We like to keep them that way, so please do not litter. We pack out what we pack in.

6. We love dogs here, but please leave your own dogs at home. Our truffle dogs hunt best without the distraction of their canine companions.

7. Have a great time!

Cancelation Policy

Life happens. If you can’t make it- please let us know 2 weeks prior to receive a refund. If cancelation occurs 1 week before your adventure date you can receive a credit you can apply to a rescheduled adventure. No shows, or late cancelations cannot be refunded. 

By attending this event I agree and acknowledge the consumption of wild fungi is widely recognized as an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious illness, permanent disability, or death. Even mushrooms or truffles that are well known to be non-toxic for the great majority of people can potentially cause allergic reactions and other idiosyncratic symptoms in certain susceptible individuals. These symptoms may be caused or worsened by undercooking, overindulgence, or by drinking alcohol. Every person should cautiously test their own tolerance for unfamiliar species of wild mushrooms or truffles.

I acknowledge that collecting wild mushrooms & truffles commonly involves strenuous physical exertion in rugged, high-altitude wilderness locations, and entails many known and unknown risks to human health and life. By way of example only, these risks include but are not limited to slips and falls; weather-related hazards such as heat stroke, hypothermia, exposure, and lightning strike; infectious diseases; rockfall or avalanche; altitude sickness; allergic reactions; drowning; penetrating or lacerating injuries from tools, branches, or other features of the local flora and terrain; and insect bites and stings, snakebites, and other wild animal attacks.

These serious injuries or illnesses may occur in areas remote from medical care, and the availability of emergency medical services or emergency transportation to medical facilities cannot be assured.
