Truffle Dog Training Seminar with Field Trip and Skills Clinic

September 6-7, 2014

Join Alana McGee and Kristin Rosenbach for a comprehensive 2-day Truffle Dog Training weekend in Mt. Vernon Washington! Attend 1 day or both. All working teams train with real dog found native truffles!

Seminar times: Day 1: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (1 hr lunch break) *may be extended to 6:00 PM based on attendance

Day 2: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM Morning Field Trip and Demo 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM Lecture and Afternoon Skills Clinic *may be extended to 6:00 PM

Location: Seminar, Lecture and Skills Clinic will be held at Fun Fur Paws 22352 Stargate Place, Mount Vernon, Washington 98274 Field Trip and Demo location will be announced at the event.

Day 1 – SeminarDogs can pinpoint the exact location of a ripe truffle.

9:00 pm – 5:00 pm: The seminar will incorporate lecture about the science of truffles and canine scent detection as well as Beginner and Advanced working team rotations addressing a comprehensive approach to truffle dog training. Topics include scent identification, alerts, basic indoor hides, outdoor hides, distractions, sequencing behaviors, building duration and understanding how your human-canine connection, energy and pressure affect the team.

Individualized training scenarios will be set up for advanced working teams.

Day 2 – Field Trip, Lecture and Skills Clinic

8:00 am – 11:30 am Field Trip and Demo: Working teams only. Advanced teams will join us on a working field trip to a truffle producing site should one be available. Individual training scenarios will be designed to help you further your skills and deepen your relationship for optimal teamwork. Beginner level working dog teams may attend to observe. Auditors will not attend this portion.

1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Lecture and Skills Clinic: Working teams and Auditors. The afternoon will include lecture about how and where you and your dog can find truffles. Beginner teams will participate in a Skills Clinic to continue developing their truffle hunting skills from day 1. Advanced working dog teams are encouraged to attend and observe how to refine their skills.

Reserve your spot early! Registration opens March 15, 2014. Prior to the event, each working team will receive an email questionnaire requesting information about your current skill level and enabling us to customize your training experience. Registration deadline September 5th, 2014. If working spots are full, you may contact us to be put on the wait list. Seminar auditors on the wait list will be given priority to purchase working spots that become available. Working teams limited to 12. Auditors limited to 20.
