Truffle Hunting Dog Workshop/ Bootcamp at Rossi Ranch

Join us for the Truffle Hunting Workshop with American Truffle Company Client Partners at Rossi Ranch in Kenwood, Ca. The workshop runs Friday, Sept 8th through Sunday, Sept 10th, 2023. This is a 3-day workshop.

Only ATC teams will be on the property for this event. We do intend to repeat something similar, or individual lessons, in the Winter truffle season both on the Rossi Ranch and at another ATC client partner property in Napa/ Sonoma area.

 

If you are an ATC farmer and would like to attend to observe and learn, but NOT bring your dog (or you don’t have one yet) that is an option too for all 3 days, or a portion thereof. You can purchase that HERE.

Friday, Sept 8th

  • Welcome, All on Friday.
  • Advanced teams will work on Summer/ Burgundy Orchard in the morning while cool(er)– in individual time slots (approx 1 hr).
  • Beginning level teams arrive mid-day to start foundation work and exercises as well as general Handler Prep. (approx. 2-3 hrs overall)
  • Chance for everyone to meet, happy hour/ doggy playtime in afternoon once everyone is done (4pm ish)

Saturday, Sept 9th (all day- most teams)

  • Beginning-level dogs arrive early and do foundation work (by Farm house) followed by break)
  •  Later morning: All teams down to Orchard for Advanced teams (beginning teams will watch). Advanced teams will be working both High and Low-density scenarios- The beginning teams go back for additional set ups.

**Depending on Heat- we may need to flip this timing to all teams seeing Orchard sets in the morning then breakout into training scenarios per skill level.

  • Break/ Lunch provided
  • The afternoon spent in the Orchard– Human location skills, practical harvesting, digging it out, how to know your dog has actually found it, how to approach searches (2 hrs)- identifying odor vs interest, other skills
  • Done- Doggy Playtime

Sunday, Sept 10th

  • Morning– all teams
  • Beginning teams work with Victoria up by House (or suitable location)
  • Advanced teams with Alana & different scenarios approx 1 hr each team
  • Done by mid-day
Fine Print
$1200 Per Team. If you have multiple dogs, please inform us so we can modify the schedule/ adjsut pricing for you.  A Team is considered a family unit of 2 people (ex: husband and wife, partners, sisters, two handlers, or manager/ handler from the same farm, etc)- if you have questions please ask us we can clarify. We need the names of everyone attending.
Rossi Ranch is located in Kenwood, Ca. The exact location and directions will be provided closer to the event. 
 In order to participate in this event, you will also need to sign our liability waiver.
*Per the questionnaire, dogs do not need to be crated when not working, but they do need to be under control at all times, so they don’t disrupt working dogs. We will provide specific guidelines closer to the event.
Let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary concerns and we’ll do our best to accommodate, but please let us know what those might be.
