Thanks for the comments,Kristin. Yes, the searches were all done one after the other. I am trying to figure out her limit. I went to 5 recently, with 3 buried and 2 very hidden in a new location. That was over her limit. Had to keep refocusing her, and she was getting frustrated. I have taken a step back with easier and less hides in the new location and given her a few days off. Will start up again today. I’ve been trying to get down to the ground with her, but she’s really fast with the treats. She was grabbing them out of my hand before I could get down, naughty girl, and Scott was not keeping the video on long enough to show that I was attempting to have her re-alert. But I do need to work harder on that aspect.

This is the first of 4 videos showing Team Zoey finding both buried and unburied unknown hides.

    Second video.

    Third video.

    Fourth….

Did another session with 4 finds today in a different location, 2 buried/2 very hidden. A couple of times I had to get her attention, as she wanted to check out the neighboring perimeter, but she got back on track and was awesome. I think she is ready for only buried hides now. The buried hides were about an inch deep. Will start burying deeper. This is so fun!

Had to edit the video into 3 parts so it wouldn’t take so long to load. This is the very first attempt at an unknown hide for her and I.

    Second unknown hide.

A bit too much was cut off of the front of this 3rd session. It took her a bit to get to this hide. I finally asked where it was so I could intervene a bit. She first checked the other 2 hide locations prior to me asking and starting to direct her.

First outdoor “blind” hide today. My assistant made the last hide a little tricky, so I had to ask where it was. The first 2 hides were pretty darn good, though. As soon as I can figure out how to edit my video, I’ll post it.

I appreciate the feedback on the videos. I had no idea that I was putting the truffle in the 3rd target each time. Not sure why I did that. It’s not what I’ve done in the house. I wish I had the last 2 searches I did that day on video. I hid the hot target in harder places to find, and she was awesome. The harness was a good purchase. She gets excited to wear it, and she is already associating it with “work”. I know she really enjoys doing something that makes her the center of attention.

Zoey’s first outdoor hunt attempt. Am going to load 4 videos in order of our progress. We are still not very good at our camera and didn’t think to make just one video with pauses in between each attempt.

    2nd attempt

    3rd attempt

    final attempt

Just had an awesome indoor hide training session with Zoey. Used cold scenarios and hot scenarios. She still starts every session visually, but when she doesn’t see the hide article, she starts using her nose. Am going to attempt an outdoor session this afternoon and have it recorded. This will be a total challenge for her, she distracts easily. I will post later.

Hi Alana, I have not yet introduced Zoey to wood or cement blocks. I have been using 3 identical plastic boxes and the tea balls. Over the holidays, I didn’t practice much with her, so I am getting back into it again. I think she may be starting to figure out the scent thing, as she is more consistent picking the correct box. She still knocks them all over, but I feel she will become more thoughtful as she gains more success.

I do have a question about the “verbal cue words” that are introduced in Lesson 3. I watched the video with Ryu where you are using “Zuch” as a cue word to begin hunting. I decided to use that word, as it won’t interfere with anything else we have used. The question is, when I say Zuch to begin the hunt, am I to say it again after she finds the target?

I agree with Shawna. I have had so many computer issues with my browser, that it took me awhile to figure out that the forum navigation was only from a lesson. I have trouble with msn.com when logging into the classroom, but it could be popup blocks or ??? It was acting strange before I started class. I now use mozilla firefox for my browser….haven’t had any problems with that one yet.

For some reason, I received 2 email notifications on my last comment about Zoey’s training. They were both identical, but received 1 minute apart. Not sure if it is a program problem, but I’ll let you know if it happens again.

I was thinking that I should have a harness that she can pull on, but I sure hope I don’t end up being a sled. I’ll have to get one for her. The only harness I have for her is a front connecting Easy Walk harness. I will back off and let her play a little without a leash on with the boxes until I get one.

First attempt at box hides was a total train wreck. The very first time I walked her down the line, she stopped at the proper box and looked at me. Yayyy…. After that, she seemed totally confused and disconnected. She started pouncing on the boxes (all of them) and, when I kept walking, she started totally ignoring them and wouldn’t leave my side. Then she checked out. So, I got out the tea ball and let her be successful again. Guess she’s not ready to move on yet. And…..I will need to get more sturdy boxes when I do the box hides again. She is not a dainty girl. I will also start using different items for the hides, so she doesn’t just focus on the look of the item. She thinks the tea ball is a ball, I think, and keeps picking it up. She is going to be a challenge. Oh well, she always has been. 🙂

Imprinting the truffle scent using a tea ball. I think Zoey may need to move on to the box hides as she seems to just be focusing on the tea ball rather than any scent. Maybe that’s the way they all begin.

I haven’t tried to post a video yet. I am planning to post either tomorrow or Saturday. I had planned to post one earlier, but decided that clicker training wasn’t too interesting to watch. When doing a box hide, do the lids in the boxes have holes punched?

Not sure if my Lesson 1 test has been graded, shows that I am 20% complete with the class, but when I click on the Lesson 2 choice, I cannot access the content. It tells me I must complete Lesson 1. Also, I will submit my video for last week either today or tomorrow.
