Welcome to class Gwen! This is the forum topic where you will post your questions and homework videos for feedback from the instructors. Please take a moment to tell us about yourself, your dog and your interest in truffle hunting (and what you have been working on during the break).
Class begins August 9th but you already have access to the first lesson so go ahead and check that out! You can begin posting video homework and questions August 9th.
Apologies as this is the first of me logging as been away on holiday and have been back for a week but work has taken precedence but back into dog training today! We did a little recap on multiple hides in the house today and Millie was great. Her indication was as good as it was when we left last session. The only thing she wasn’t so keen on was working the entire room unless I was close to her so we will work on that over the coming weeks. Great to be back!
Good to have you guys back and can’t wait to see you guys in action. Even if you can’t get video, let us know how it’s going.
I was uploading some video content and was going to post up once I cut out the bits with no dog in them and ask for feedback on a couple of things whilst waiting however I have just reread the first lesson and it is a reminder for me as a trainer and a handler to read things properly before doing the training!! So back outdoors we go to do it properly and new video will be taken!
The issue I had was manic lead work so that’s something I need to work on settling her down. She is extremely keen to find the scent and being a spaniel finds it hard to control herself!
The other issue was that her indication was a bit weaker but my setup wasn’t right which I now realise and I am going back out later in the week to start again.
Indications/ alerts being weaker is ok. Remember when changing locations/ scenarios to be more difficult, reduced criteria is fine.
And yes, the spaniels. Always so excited!
If you have questions on something Gwen, please feel free to ask away. That’s why we are here- assignment or not, we are here to help. If it gets to be too much for some reason, we’ll let you know 😉
Apologies for the long delay. This is from lesson 2 and was the first multiples outside however I made a major error at the start! I am certain she indicates on a target [00:03} and I don’t mark it and this shows in her behaviour from then on but she does recover all 3 eventually.
